Something new for Mini Red
From Monday 2nd November, every Mini Red session has a theme and a weekly game to practice at home or at Thame Tennis Club. Every fourth week is Match Week, to apply the skills learnt through the term.
Starts Monday 2nd NovemberWhat your child gets
Three things this block, so you can see what they're learning and how they're getting on.
Home practice, online
The same skill your child worked on in that week's lesson, with a five-minute game to play at home. It's on this page, and the card comes on the group WhatsApp every Sunday.
Match Week
A round robin in their own group. They choose who they play, call the score and shake hands. Every player takes home a certificate.
An end-of-term review
Mark scores eight skills 1, 2 or 3, from working on it to can do it every time, with a short comment on what comes next.
Practice at home
Six weeks, six adventures. Each card matches what your child did in that week's lesson, so they practice at home what they've just learned on court. It shows the skill, the phrase to say, and a game for home and one for the club.
- Week 1Fireworks Night
- Week 2Space Station
- Week 3Jungle Explorers
- Week 4Pirate Island
- Week 5Arctic Expedition
- Week 6Winter Games
Questions from parents
Do I need to know any tennis?
No. Each card says what to do in a couple of lines, and the games work with a soft ball in the garden or the hallway. Five minutes is plenty.
My child can already rally. Is this too easy?
Every card has a simple version and a harder one, so it works for children just starting and those who can already keep a rally going. On court, Mark sets each child's target to where they are.
What if we miss a week?
All six cards stay on this page for the whole block, so you can catch up any time. Nothing is marked or checked.
How will I know how they're getting on?
Every fourth week is Match Week, and every player takes home a certificate. In the last week of the block, Mark fills in a review sheet showing what they can do and what comes next.
Does any of this cost extra?
No. The home practice, Match Week and the review are all part of your child's membership.
The full GrowTennis Pathway arrives in January
